Acting Executive Director/First Deputy Executive Director
Susan Bass Levin assumed the responsibility of Acting Executive Director on April 24, 2008 following the resignation of Anthony E. Shorris, and will perform the functions of the Executive Director under the Port Authority By-Laws until the Board of Commissioners appoints the agency's next Executive Director. Susan Bass Levin became First Deputy Executive Director effective July 18, 2007. Prior to her tenure at the Port Authority, Ms. Levin served as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs from January 2002 until July 2005, and again starting in January 2006 until her appointment to the Port Authority. Ms. Levin is recognized for her creative approaches to economic and community development. She currently serves on the New Jersey Local Finance Board that oversees municipal finance issues and previously served on the Board of the New Jersey Alliance for Action and the South Jersey Development Council. Ms. Levin has a J.D. with Honors from George Washington Law School, where she was a member of the Law Review, and a B.A. from the University of Rochester, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She is the mother of two daughters.
