| Port Authority Sustainability Effort Expands

The Port Authority’s Board of Commissioners authorized four capital projects totaling $12.2 million that are part of the agency’s sustainability program – aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the agency's facilities. These projects include:
- the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting on the George Washington Bridge and in the Holland Tunnel;
- the use of geothermal energy to power a building at John F. Kennedy International Airport; and
- the installation of an advanced energy metering system at all Port Authority facilities.
Also, earlier this month, the Port Authority and the Port of Rotterdam signed an agreement to work cooperatively to jointly strengthen and expand environmental initiatives in both ports.

| Port Authority to Acquire Key Parcel of Land for Cargo Growth

| The Port Authority’s Board of Commissioners approved an agreement with the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority to acquire a parcel of land to handle its growing auto processing business.
At its September 20 meeting, the Board approved a $50.5 million payment to acquire a 153-acre parcel of property on the former Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne for maritime terminal use to handle the continuing growth and expansion in activity in the Port of New York and New Jersey.
The Port Authority intends to use the Military Ocean Terminal property for future auto marine terminal and other maritime-related uses.

| Port Authority Authorizes Capital Improvements for Stewart International Airport

| The Port Authority’s Board of Commissioners authorized $17.1 million for the implementation of a number of capital improvements at Stewart International Airport, which will be managed by the Port Authority effective November 1.
At its September 20 meeting, the Board authorized improvements intended to alleviate a parking shortage and improve access to the airport. Also, Diannae Ehler, currently general manager of the Lincoln Tunnel and the Port Authority Bus Terminal, will be the next general manager of the airport.

The Port Authority was created in 1921. Over the next 10 years it built and opened four bridges: the Goethals Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing; and the George Washington and Bayonne bridges. It also issued the first version of the consolidated revenue bond to establish a funding source for building new regional transportation infrastructure, and assumed responsibility for the Holland Tunnel.
