AIRCRAFT REGULATIONS - It is important to note that Teterboro Airport does not accommodate scheduled carrier operations due to its functional role as a general aviation reliever airport. To maintain its role in serving the region's small aircraft needs, the airport imposes weight restrictions that prohibit use of the airport by aircraft with operating weights in excess of 100,000 pounds. As a result, Teterboro's utilization is comprised of a broad range of general aviation aircraft.
CERTIFICATION STATUS - In 1973, Teterboro Airport voluntarily applied for and received certification for safety under Part 139 of the Federal Aviation Regulations. It was the first general aviation airport in the nation to have this certification. Under this certification, the airport operator must meet prescribed operating and safety standards, terms and conditions as required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). These regulations dictate facility requirements and procedures that are followed at air carrier airports. In March 2000, Teterboro Airport became the first civilian airport to receive ISO 9002 certification from the International Organization for Standards. The certification process involved the auditing of 20 components of airport administration and service to establish standards of quality. ISO, which establishes standards for ideal business practices and is recognized worldwide, reviewed the airport's management procedures, responsibility, corrective and preventive action, and internal quality and control measures. The benefits of having ISO 9002 certification include improved productivity and efficiency, improved consistency of service performance and higher customer satisfaction levels.
